About me

hannah dees eyes.jpg

I first experienced the power of journalism at age 16 on a cold Saturday morning when an older man called WFLO FM 95.7 in Farmville, Virginia. He said he was diabetic, paralyzed and didn’t know where his next meal was coming from. Not only was I able to get food to him that day, but I was able to get him registered for Meals on Wheels and assure he was provided veteran’s assistance.

I’ve loved radio from the beginning — everything from the music, to the rush of being on-air, to the little “escape” I could give people from their everyday lives. But I realized I could do more than help one veteran.

I could bring transparency to salaries for government employees using the Freedom of Information Act. I could use social media to report on civil unrest and protests in my community. I could keep residents informed during catastrophic tornadoes, flooding and snow.

I've enjoyed every second of working for local television stations, newspapers and radio stations in Virginia. I currently live with my husband, Joe, in Virginia Beach.

When I'm not working, you can find me reading or painting by the water.
